The 4th edition of the Pixel Heaven brought the Total Blackout statuette to the Trefl JokerLine team. We received the prize for our Boss Monster in the “best board and card game” category. The game has become a worldwide and national hit. But let us start from the beginning.
The Pixel Heaven 2016 event took place in the MZA Hall in Warsaw. The 4th edition of the Polish celebration of creativity was fully devoted to independent and retro games. The visitors could sit in front of over 100 computers and play both retro hits and new indie games. Of course, the 3-day event was also filled with competitions, flippers, board games, comic book zone and other attractions.
The Pixel Awards ceremony was an important point of the Pixel Heaven. 19 productions were qualified for the final. The jury awarded the Total Blackout statuette to Boss Monster as the best card game.
Boss Monster is characterised by its graphic style, inspired by classic video games. The game itself is quick and unpredictable, but at the same time requires strategic thinking. It was designed with experienced players in mind; however, it is also accessible enough for the new players to enjoy.
The game creators – brothers Chris and Johnny O’Neal – gathered funds for releasing Boss Monster on Kickstarter, where in 30 days of the game’s pre-sale they managed to get an astonishing sum of over 215000 dollars (with only 12 000 planned). Since the release of Boss Monster in July 2013 in the US, almost 30 000 games have been sold, which is a real record for an independent game.
We are grateful for the distinction. See you next year – we will be sure to bring you new hits like the Boss Monster!
